Useless Nixie Device is a device which has a function but no direct purpose. The device allows you to connect 21 different sockets for several dozen nixie tubes and enjoy to watch your tubes in action.
WHAT FOR.
The main function is “good looking”. If you are a nixie tube enthusiast, this project will be the perfect complement for your desk. The device has mainly educational values because is very simple to assemble. You can always learn something new.
HOW IT WORKS.
Useless Nixie Device is a simple tube controller with high voltage 170V power supply on board. All digits or characters of the nixie tube are displayed with a constant speed. The device requires 12V power supply.
EXCHANGEABLE SOCKETS.
All sockets have the same pin layout which allows easy replacement of the sockets for different nixie tubes without having to any hardware change. Each of the sockets (connected to the device) provides the valid power supply parameters for the compatible nixie tubes (supply voltage and current). There are 21 compatible sockets (all sockets without socket no.16 which is dedicated for nixie tube testers, sockets no. 20, 23, 24). Socket no.17 is specially designed to this device (also compatible with other devices) and dedicated for Z567M, Z5670M nixie tubes.
