NIXIE SOCKET DRIVER.

The driver is a summary of the whole family of nixie sockets that support most of the nixie tubes ever produced.

Parameters and features.

  • Compatible with all nixie sockets
  • Can be used with multi-cathode nixie tubes e.g. B-7971
  • 5V / 3.3V data IO
  • Easy to use with Arduino or Raspberry Pi etc. (only 3 control lines)
  • The nixie socket drivers can be connected in series

*Please note that nixie tube drivers require additional 170V power supply.

MAIN FEATURES.

The nixie socket drivers can be connected in series. Each module has connectors for nixie socket. Currently, there are multiple different tube sockets available for over a hundred different tubes and several new sockets are being prepared. Sockets no. 20, 23, 24, 26 only version A – these sockets are specially designed for multi segment tubes e.g. B7971, B8971 etc. In the case of a larger number of tubes or tubes with higher power consumption e.g. B7971, a additional Nixie Power Supply module can be connected to each driver module.

COMPATIBLE SOCKETS.

All sockets have the same pin layout which allows easy replacement of the sockets for different nixie tubes without having to change the control program code (e.g. Arduino code). Each of the sockets (connected to the device) provides the valid power supply parameters for the compatible nixie tubes (supply voltage and current). You don’t have to worry about that either.

CODING.

The sample program code has been prepared to show that the control is very simple and basic knowledge of the Arduino is enough. How to connect drivers to the controller can be found here.

DATASHEET.

The design is based on shift registers that control high voltage transistors outputs. Shift registers allow serial connection of modules and easy control.

SERIAL CONNECTION.

The control module must be the first module in a series of devices (first from the left). Other modules can only be connected to the right of the control module. If necessary, a separate Nixie Power Supply can be added to each Nixie Socket Driver module.
